After an examination of principal topographic features and drainage patterns, the site is generally subdivided into districts along the lines of physical landmarks and planned biodiversity corridors. These corridors will provide natural pathways for wildlife, recreation trails for city inhabitants, bio-filtration of surface runoff through vegetated zones buffering natural drainage routes, and discernable boundaries separating identifiable districts. Existing transporation routes, a rail line in the north, and a two-lane highway in the center, begin to define uses. A new limited-access divided highway is located along the south boundary of the site to allow for the bypass of regional vehicle traffic. A centrally located, dominant karst feature anchors the main north-south boulevard and central business district. |
A 200m grid is applied to the site in cardinal orientation to establish a block pattern. Part of the grid is rotated in response to the strong topographical edge of steep terrain along the south boundary of the site. The rotated grid will align with the strong directionality of the proposed divided highway serving the southern districts. Each district is assigned commercial sub-centers and geographicly distributed municipal locations to facilitate local governance and public services. Light rail transit routes and station stops are identified. Water sources are accorded respect with adjoining park spaces. |
Block zoning is defined in greater detail to establish general development patterns. Principal arterials are located to define the street and block grid pattern throughout the site. |
